Mothers Day ..... A Time to Recognize, A Time to Appreciate, A Time To Remember

Mothers hold a special place in the hearts of their children and my mom is no exception. As Mothers day approaches and I prepare for my "children" and grand children to come for dinner I know I will be remembering My Mom, all that she taught me, all that she stood for and all that she was. About The Foster Memorial

The Foster Memorial itself is worthy of the visit even with out the music. This wonderful unique treasure of byzantine design is located approx 4 km north of Uxbridge on Durham 1. The solid copper roof has leaded stained glass windows. The doors are constructed of solid brass again with stained glass windows. The floor and ceiling are covered with marble mosaics with inlaid symbols There is a marble alter and the columns supporting the great arches are also marble with devon stone capitals. The structure itself is octagon in shape and built of Indiana limestone with a great central dome.

Foster was born July 24th, 1825, in Lambton Mills but was raised in the former Scott Township (now part of Uxbridge) where the family moved after his mothers passing where his father ran the Hotel in the Hamlet of Leaskdale. Later in life he would become a butcher in cabbage town, (Toronto) and serve as the Mayor of Toronto from 1925 to 1927 in addition to being elected as an MP.

The Thomas Foster Memorial is a striking contrast to the surrounding rolling farm lands. Inspired by the Taj Mahal in India and Christian Byzantine churches it was built as a resting place for Fosters wife and daughter.

About The LMMSO

"The Lucy Maud Montgomery Society of Ontario is a not-for-profit organization incorporated within the Province of Ontario. The purpose of the Society is to bring together people who share an interest in the heritage of Lucy Maud Montgomery, particularly as it relates to her life in Leaskdale. The Society operates the Leaskdale Manse National Historic Site, a museum which is open to the public. It owns the Historic Leaskdale Church (the former St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church where Ewan Macdonald was the minister from 1910 to 1926) and uses it in conjunction with the Manse to showcase the life of Montgomery in Leaskdale."

Uxbridge History and Heritage

The Historical plaque erected on the front lawn of the Manse property reads as follows:

"LUCY MAUD MONTGOMERY"

"In this house the author of "Anne of Green Gables" lived for fifteen years, and here wrote eleven of her twenty-two novels, including "Anne of the Island" (1915) and "Anne's House of Dreams" (1916). Born in 1874 at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, she was educated at Charlottetown and Halifax. From 1898 to 1911, she lived at Cavendish, P.E.I., and there began her career as a novelist. In 1911 she married the Rev. Ewan Macdonald, a Presbyterian minister, and came with him to Leaskdale. They moved in 1926 to Norval, and nine years later to Toronto, where she died in 1942. Mrs. Macdonald was awarded the O.B.E. by King George V in 1935"

GTA Market conditions continued to tighten especially in the single-detached homes segment as sales growth in this segment was up 22% over last year .

 The Average Selling Price for homes in the GTA $517,556 ..... UP 8.5% over the same period last year 

Over all sales numbers ..... UP 18% over the same period last year with 10,350 existing home sales in April 2012

Year Over Year new listings ..... up 3.8%

Walking With My Grandson And The Okami Kai Team In The MS Walk

Sometimes life throws us a curve ball

My Brother was diagnosed with MS a few years ago and was recently hospitalized when he lost all feeling from the waist down. This is not the first curve ball life has pitched his way yet while visiting him in the hospital I could not get over how cheerful he was.  With friends and relatives suffering from this debilitating disease when My grandson asked if I would walk with him I simply said yes. 

 I am part of the MS Walk because I believe we will end multiple sclerosis - with your help we can get there. Please give generously.

Can you imagine ...

• walking up one morning and not be able to walk
• that you may suddenly have impaired vision
• that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason
• symptoms of MS are many and vary for everyone

It's estimated that approximately 55,000-75,000 men and women in Canada have the disease, and every day about three more people are diagnosed.

... a future without MS

I've registered for the MS Walk because I want to do something for everyone who lives with multiple sclerosis. The MS Society is the only national voluntary organization in Canada that supports both MS research and services.

The MS Walk has been a critical part of the MS Society's fundraising efforts for over 20 years. Proceeds from this event and others like it provide support and services to help those living with this disease, their families and caregivers. They also fund research with three primary goals: to find a cause and cure for MS, repair nervous system damage caused by MS and stop MS attacks.

Statistics from one listing web site indicate the number of listings viewed to date is up from April of 2011 for the entire month if activity continues at the current rate the number of listings viewed will be more than double that of last April

There are currently 124 properties for sale in Uxbridge and it's Hamlets of Coppins Corners, Goodwood, Leaskdale, Sandford, Udora, and Zephyr, ranging in price from $169,900 to $2,150,000 on the national realtor.ca web site.

In looking at the chart below you will notice the average value of homes viewed is slowly rising. This is not necessarily an indicator that values are Rising ..... it is simply a reflection of the values of properties that are currently being viewed. 

The Two graphs below represent the average and median price range of homes that potential buyers are looking at on one of my web sites.

National Volunteer Week Starts Tomorrow - April 15th to 21st, 2012 - Volunteers Are The Spirit Of The Community

From Firefighters to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Auxilliary Volunteers augment many of the services provided locally. Our History and Heritage would swirl away into the past if it were not for the volunteers who help keep it alive. 

It is the commitment and sprit of volunteers, who form a very important part of the social fabric of Uxbridge, that help to make Uxbridge a Community of Character.

Neighbours helping neighbours through organizations such as Chats or contributing to the community through organizations and Foundations such as the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation The Bonner Boys, The Lions, The Rotary, Local Church Groups and many more help to make xbridge the compasionate caring community that it is.
